What is the procedure for disposing of solid barium sulfate and solid copper sulfate? I know that both substances are toxic so I have not simply washed them down the drain.

Thanks,

Edwin, You'll need to package

Edwin, You'll need to package and tag these for disposal. Nothing fancy is needed -- plastic or glass bottles/jars with lids will work. If the compounds are separate, keep them that way. Label the bottles with the names (not chemical formulas) and quantities. If possible, use tags from your district's EHS office or hazardous waste disposal vendor. It's probably not worth it to have the vendor make a trip for just these compounds -- they are not corrosive and will last a long time on the shelf. You can wait until you have a larger batch of chemicals to dispose of. Chris Exstrom UNK Chemistry Professor
